I think it's wonderful to hear from people like you, plenipotentiary. Agree with what you said about challenging hate speech. And I'm glad, like you, that the local LGBT community is starting to stand out more now.

It's definitely good to receive positive and mature comments here. :)

This is my first visit to TiltedWorld and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised that the Malaysian LGBT community is getting a voice. I'm not gay myself but I consider myself socially and politically liberal. Kudos on being part of a new step in Malaysia's social development. Hopefully we can all challenge hate speech wherever we find it, especially if it comes in the form of religious posturing by national leaders who should know better.

-peace out

It is not unrelated to us. This is more than just a religious issue. We don't have to be Muslims to see the discrimination against our Muslim brothers and sisters - the gays, lesbians, mak nyahs, et al.

The NGOs aren't... non-anything. It's not like they're against Muslims (otherwise why would they be protesting for the women affected by the fatwas? And again, some members of the NGOs are Muslim so you cannot say that they shouldn't have a say in something that affects them given how it is their religion) - and it's not even that they're completely pro-Muslim or fighting for the causes of any religion or race, etc.

This is just discrimination, and they are saying no to that. "No", to the abuse of power by the authorities in the name of prejudice and discrimination.

Really, Muhammad Asfan/fux - you're really not making yourself look any less of a bigot with the kinds of comments your making and how they're completely lacking in any form of substance whatsoever.

Er, as Lainie said, the NGOs are "non-Muslim" - but also non-Christian, non-Jewish, non-Hindu, non-Buddhist...essentially, non-religious, because religion doesn't come into it. Some people involved in those NGOs are Muslims, so this affects them greatly. Also, the Fatwa Council/JAKIM people have a tendency to arrest non-Muslims for no good reason.

Basically, what's with the moral police?
